Agriculture contributes to about 58% livelihood of India’s population. However, after independence, India made immense growth in food-grain production which has increased multiple-folds.

  • Primary crops are Rice, Wheat, Pulses, Nine Oilseeds, Cotton, Sugarcane, Jute & Mesta.
  • Sugarcane and cotton have witnessed a massive growth in yield and production over the year
  • Cotton crops have witnessed an increase in the area of cultivation, which is due to the advancement in technology and seeds quality
  • Foodgrains include rice, wheat, coarse cereals, and pulses
  • Nine oilseeds include groundnut, castor seed, sesamum, niger seed, soybean, sunflower, rapeseed & mustard, linseed, and safflower
