Beyond Baingan: From Worldly Delights to Dreadful Dishes

Food defines the culture of a country however the taste buds will always define emotion. With globalization, our taste buds have got a chance to taste other country’s food however with localization it has evolved according to our cultural taste buds. According to Taste Atlas, India’s ‘Aloo Baingan’ made it to the top 100 worst dishes in the world, while 3 of our favourite food made it to the list of 100 best dishes in the world i.e. ‘Butter Garlic Naan’, ‘Murgh makhani’, ‘Tikka’, and ‘Tandoori’ respectively.

I think the result is not correct, there are best dishes and worst dishes which failed to make it to the list. Therefore please let’s vote worst food and best dishes and will publish the results regularly.

Hope you gave your valuable input to know more about our taste buds.

Analysis of Best and Worst Food in the World

Best Dish Quick Overview

  • Our pasta-loving taste buds would agree with the result, top 13 dishes are from Italy
  • 2nd place is shared by Turkiye and Mexico with 8 dishes
  • Top (5) countries contributing to 43% of the list are – Italy, Turkiye, Mexico, Japan and Greece

Worst Food Quick Overview

  • USA tops the list with 11 dishes featuring in the list followed by Spain with 10 dishes
  • Top (4) countries- USA, Spain, Italy, and Sweden contribute to 33% of the list

Key Highlights

  • Europe has a wide range of taste buds and Italy is in the top 5 in both the categories
  • Africa remains unexplored even after being 2nd largest continent
  • England which had influenced the world once, couldn’t make to the list of best dishes

Conclusion

It would not be correct to judge a food or dish just based on a survey because every food/dish has its own story which has been carried from generations and has become a part and identity of that culture.

Like travel food/dish has its own experience and taste, for example some people like mountains and others beaches. And there are dishes who came as guests and became an integral part of the society like how biryani became a part of India’s culture. (check my post on this)
